Hello everyone! Today’s topic of discussion is...HEART ATTACKS.

Disclaimer: This blog is not meant for any educational purposes. The issue of heart attacks is very serious and, therefore, we encourage you all to read more about them. Enjoy your read!

We have lost many famous people like James Gandolfini, the actor best remembered for his role in ‘The Sopranos’ to a heart attack at such a young age of 51, and Indian celebrity Siddharth Shukla, who passed away due to the aforementioned condition at a very tender age of 41. Yes, heart attacks are scary. I am not such an emotional person but when I heard about the death of Sidharth Shukla, it shattered me to the core not because I was his fangirl (I barely knew the guy) or anything, but because he was too young to die. This sparked a question in my so-called curious mind- why have so many young people died because of heart attacks?

According to statistics, 1 in every 5 young people under the age of 40 is at risk of heart attack (daunting right?!)

(P.S: Aditi after getting to know this)

A heart attack hasty has one of the most ferocious reputations throughout all of the media and pop culture. It has somehow managed to become ingrained in all of our lives with a combination of the relative severity of it combined with how little time it provides for treatment. However, not all hope is lost because it can be relatively easy to detect if one knows the factors they are looking for. The most common and painful symptom is easily the chest and jaw pain that originates from a myocardial infarction (aka heart attack). This should be your number ONE sign. Some other symptoms include --- Shortness of breath, difficulty in breathing, feeling dizzy and unusual tiredness.

A myocardial infarction gets worse the longer it goes on, thus treatment is necessary. People who are still in the early stages of a myocardial infarction can still recover, provided they improve their lifestyle by eating better and performing less strenuous physical activity.

For the last decade typically the people above the age of 65 were more likely to get a heart attack but now people even under the age of 40 are under the radar.

Following are some leading causes of a heart attack in young people-

  1. Dietary Choices- Well I Know, I know, we all love McDonald's, dominos and all other cheesy deliciousness and we want to continue eating it but not Aditi being the devil’s incarnate here but they are BAD for you, really really bad so bad that they are the main contributors of obesity(obesity leads to high cholesterol) which in most of the cases causes a heart attack.

  2. Lack of Physical Activity- I am one of those people who hates to go out of the house and just stay in and binge-watch Netflix(but wait, IB has stopped that now) instead of going out and working out or just walking, basically a lack of physical activity which leads to a very sedentary lifestyle.

  3. Smoking away the stress- Smokers are 2 to 4 times more likely to get heart attacks than non-smoker.

  4. Genes/ Family history of Cardiovascular diseases

This dramatic increase in heart attacks in younger people over the past few decades is a sign that our lifestyle choices MUST CHANGE. Heart attacks can be significantly reduced if we all make lifestyle changes that we know we need; maybe less take-out or even if you want to try Subway, start leading an active life and just enjoy your life carefreely :) Remember that every person is different, so do the changes that you think will help YOU!

not YOU!!! (Jana~ he scares me)

Have a great day everyone :)
